This fast-track discovery of northern Vietnam takes you to the lush lands of Ba Be National Park where you can enjoy boating on the lake and the Nang River and experience the pleasure of sleeping in a traditional Tay stilt house. You will then explore the mountainous areas of Cao Bang and Quang Uyen with a visit to the magnificent Ban Gioc Waterfalls. This tour will take you to the remote and beautiful areas of northern Vietnam before skirting along the Vietnam and Chinese border and heading back to Hanoi.

You will depart from your hotel at 07:30, making a stop in Thai Nguyen to visit the Museum of the Culture of the Ethnic Minorities of Vietnam, followed by lunch at a street restaurant. You will then leave the main road to take a smaller one snaking through the mountains and tea plantations before arriving in Tay village of Bo Lu. You will be welcomed by Mr. Linh and his amazingly friendly Tay family in their traditional house. If it’s hot, you can jump into the refreshing waters of Ba Be Lake to cool down. You will be treated to a superb dinner (Mrs. Linh is a true Cordon Bleu). You will stay overnight on their houses
After enjoying breakfast overlooking the lake, you will take a boat trip around the three bays of Ba Be Lake and along the Nang River to the enormous tunnel of Puong Cave. The river has carved out an incredible piece of art which stretches all the way through the mountain. The boat ride will continue to Hua Tang Village, where you can enjoy the simplicity of rural life. You will have lunch in a local house along the bank of the river before walking into the jungle to visit Dau Dang Waterfall. If you wish to continue along the trail, you will come to a large river bend which is a haven for local wildlife and has a small harbor. You will return to the homestay by boat for another night in the traditional Tay stilt house.
Fast track discovery of North Vietnam, Ma Puc pass, Cao Bang
You will depart in the morning to travel through the mountains to the border town of Cao Bang which sits nestled between mountains and the Red Dao River. Here you will visit the War Memorial where you can uncover some of Vietnam’s past and admire the sweeping views of the valley and Central Market. After lunch, you will take the Ma Phuc Pass to the small town of Quang Uyen where you will spend the night in a Tay homestay
Firstly, you will visit one of the most spectacular grottoes in Vietnam, Nguom Ngao Cave. It is made up of several kilometers of superbly-lit galleries and a huge 100-m room. After the exploring the cave you visit the extraordinary site of Ban Gioc Waterfalls. The 300-meter cascade is the closest you can get to the Chinese border which passes through the center of the falls and river. Here you can stop for lunch whilst be soaking up the ambiance with plenty of time for taking photographs. You will return to Cao Bang where you will have dinner and spend the night
Today you will travel on an incredible stretch of road which trails the Vietnam-China border before arriving in the village of Dong Khé, the site of a terrible battle between the French and the Vietminh in October 1950. You can visit the ruins of the French fort, followed by a beautiful ride among the lime peaks to the village of Duc Long which was the location of General Giap’s headquarters during the battle. You will be able to stroll around the village and visit the local museum. After lunch in Dong Khé, you will drive to Lang Son where you can check-in to your hotel on a small lake and enjoy dinner at the New Century which is famous in the entire region for its extensive menu. During the evening you can visit the lively and colorful night market.
In the morning, you will visit a site unknown to most tourists, the formidable Lang Son French Fort. In addition to the magnificent view of the entire region, the site has an impressive display of remains (it was blown to pieces by the Chinese in 1979). You will then go back to town and visit Tam Thanh Grotto and the ruins of the Citadel of the Mac Dynasty, a deserted site offering of beautiful views of the countryside. After enjoying a delicious lunch, you will return to Hanoi.
